Paul Hilcoff suggested that the songs sounded more like something out of The Hypstrz' repertoire, although in my opinion, the lounge sound is somewhat out of character for The Hypstrz. The keyboard also sounds quite different than the keyboards used by Things That Fall Down, who were also on the bill - they had more of a classic retro Farfisa, going for the sound of The Contortions meets ? & The Mysterians. My old band at the time used to play shows with Things That Fall Down, and I did some booking for them later in the early '90s, so I know their material and sound pretty well. This isn't them, at least not in full format - very possibly, a conglomerate of various musicians made up this band. The band on side B of the cassette was a standard TTFD set, though. Paul also suggested that this may be a combination of Huskers and some other band(s); his reasoning being that it sounds like a different lead singer at times, and the keyboards certainly aren't usual (although theoretically it could be Grant sitting in with someone). Dan Grobani told us that unfortunately, he does not remember anything about this show; and he has no setlist for this one. One thing I did notice: it sounds like the vocal on “Money” could be Grant, and he mentions Steve Kramer in the lyrics, who was the keyboard player for The Wallets, another Mpls band. The keyboard sound and lounge-shtick could possibly be a result of at least some of The Wallets being present, but after 35 years, there doesn’t seem to be any way to confirm this, and the tape *was* labelled “Husker Du”, so anything else is just speculation. Paul and I both agree on one thing about this tape: we are both totally baffled here. - - - - The DG Tapes.
